Generating a Run-time Diagnostic Report with the Mentor License Utility (video)

There are two different reports that are available - the Standard and Run-time versions. The contents of the reports are mostly the same. The key difference is the Run-time version pauses to allow replication of the licensing error/symptom and adds the error details to the report. Typically, the Customer Support CAE will advise on which report to run.

Instructions:


Run-time Diagnostic Report:

  1. Download the Mentor_License_Utility_INSTALL.exe
  2. Run the Mentor_License_Utility_INSTALL.exe to install. It also creates a shortcut**, and launches the Mentor License Utility program. (See README.txt for version information)
  3. Navigate to and select the Tools -> Create Diagnostic Report -> Run-time menu item.
  4. After reading the important message on the Run-time diagnostic report dialog, click Continue.
  5. Part way through the report generation an IMPORTANT NOTE will appear in the command prompt window with instructions on how to duplicate the licensing error. Follow the instructions carefully.
  6. The report will likely take a few minutes or more to complete, depending on the complexity of the licensing environment, and the number of Mentor products installed, on the machine.
  7. Once the report completes it will open in Notepad. It is also saved as a diag_file.txt in the <Install Folder>\Mentor_License_Utility folder.
  8. Send the diag_file.txt to Customer Support (can be attached to a new Service Request for category "Licensing").

 

 

Standard Diagnostic Report:

  4. The report may take up to a few minutes to complete, depending on the complexity of the licensing environment on the machine.
  5. Once the report completes it will open in Notepad. It is also saved as a diag_file.txt in the <Install Folder>\Mentor_License_Utility folder.
  6. Send the diag_file.txt to Customer Support (can be attached to a new Service Request for category "Licensing").

 

 

* Download the "Full" version from SupportNet (includes an automated "Install License" program and other functions)

** A shortcut to the Mentor License Utility is created under Start > Programs > Mentor Graphics License Utility
