The “Receive email notifications” functionality from our older version has been changed. It has been replaced with the concept of activity or content “streams” that have been introduced on other popular websites in the last few years (Facebook’s Newsfeed is a content stream).
But receiving email notifications for content of interest to you is still quick and easy to set up. And you can respond to Discussions by email, too.
There are a couple of ways you can do it:
OPTION 1: Selecting Inbox in Your Preferences
3 Quick Steps (further detail and images below):
A. Select Preferences from the drop down by your name.
B. On your Preference page, simply select “On” for the first Inbox listed. Adjust other Preference settings if you wish. Then Save at the bottom.
C. Now when you find content of interest in the community, just select Follow in the upper right corner, check Inbox from the dropdown, then Done.
Detail and images of steps for this option:
A. Select Preferences from the drop down by your name.
B. Select “On” for the first Inbox listed. Adjust any other Preference settings that you see, and select Save at the bottom. This enables you to receive a separate email each time someone posts an update to a piece of content you have selected to follow.
NOTE: There are 3 different Inbox options. While a bit confusing, there is a brief description under each listing which community activities will result in an email notification to you. Turn each on/off as you want. Turning them all On may result in more mail than you want. Also, I suggest turning Connections Stream to “Off” unless you prefer to also have notifications sent to the Connections Streams found within your community Inbox & Activity link.
C.Now, whatever content you find of interest, just select Follow in the upper right corner, check Inbox from the dropdown, then Done. This applies to an individual piece of content or a community.
That’s it. From now on you will receive a separate email each time someone posts an update to an item you have selected to follow in your Inbox.
OPTION 2: Using Email Watches
Email Watches is a content stream that was automatically created IF you had any “Receive email notifications” checked from our former version. Only a small percentage of our members did, so you may not see this option.
3 Quick Steps (much like Option 1; further detail and images below):
A. Select Preferences from the drop down by your name.
B. On your Preference page, simply select “On” for the Email Watches option listed. Adjust other Preference settings if you wish. Then Save at the bottom.
C. Now when you find content of interest in the community, just select Follow in the upper right corner, check Email Watches from the dropdown, then Done.
Detail and images of steps for this option:
A. Select Preferences from the drop down by your name.
A. On Your Preferences page, set Email Watches to On. Click Save.
B. In the Follow drop down, check Email Watches instead of Inbox.
