What are the Conductor Types

VeSys has 6 different conductor types these are: Wire, PCB Track, Bus Bar, Screen, Virtual Wire and Fly Lead. Listed below is a brief description of what these are and where they may be used.

 

Wire

 

 

Description: These have electrical and physical properties, wires are outputted to harnesses.

 

 

Use: Used to represent a wire in VeSys Design and VeSys Harness.

 

 

PCB Track

 

 

Description: Has electrical properties such maximum current rating, these can be reported on although they are not outputted to the Harness.

 

 

Use: Internals of a custom component.

 

 

Bus Bar

 

 

Description: Has electrical properties such maximum current rating, these can be reported on although they are not outputted to the Harness.

 

 

Use: Internals of Custom Components although typically for high currents than PCB Tracks.

 

 

 

 

 

Screen

 

 

Description:  Has all of the properties available to wires, although the VeSys User manual states that they are not outputted to a harness they actually are.

 

 

Use:  For Screen are for screens or shields on wires to differentiate them from Wires.

 

 

 

 

 

Virtual Wire

 

 

Description:  Can only be tagged with a signal name, has almost no resistance value (it would be zero but the VeSys spice model needs a value to perform calculations and so it is 0.0001) and cannot be overloaded.

 

 

Use 1:  Most commonly used to electrically connect different areas of the schematic (i.e. if the same splice is shown in 2 different locations they could be joined by a Virtual to keep them at the same voltage).

 

 

Use 2:  In the versions up to 2007.2 they are used on one side of a Wire Break, this is because the simulation would otherwise count the wire length twice if 2 wires are used.

 

 

Use 3:  Within custom components to internally link components/pins, although more commonly PCB Tracks or Bus Bars are used because they have be assingned a current rating which is useful to check that the internal tracks of component will not be damaged during a failure.  Virtual Wires can be used with Wire Breaks to link multiple occurances of an ECU for example an ECU that controls lights and motors may be drawn on different sheets (one for lighting and one for motors), there may be only 1 power feed on the component so an Wire Break and virtual wire can be used to pass the power between both instances of the ECU.

 

 

 

 

 

Fly Lead

 

 

Description:  Fly Leads wires are not outputted to harnesses, they can have all properties that a regular wire has.

 

 

Use:  These are used to wires that are attached to components that are purchased with trailing wires, for simulation to be accurate these wires would need to be accounted for but do not form part of the wiring harness.
